The Excitement of Collaboration Between Students of Polibatam and Republic Polytechnic Singapore
POLIBATAM-In collaboration with Republic Polytechnic (RP), Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) this month successfully held a collaborative event between students entitled ‘Student Immersion: Polibatam & RP Singapore’. This program begins with an online opening by Yoke Fong, RP supervisor on February 15. At the first meeting, students were divided into groups and given mini-project assignments with the theme “cultural differences”, which will be presented in groups on March 7. In this offline activity, students from both institutions will meet face to face.
On the first day of offline activities, on 7 March 2023, a series of activities will take the form of a welcoming session, PBL observation, and project presentation. The welcome session was lively and hosted by the MC duo, Yoelfani and Emsyee Aprina, and was attended by representatives from both institutions, they are Dr. Daniel Sutopo as the Head of Center for Research & Community Service/Pusat Penelitian & Pengabdian Masyarakat (P3M) from Polibatam, Irkham Nugroho Putro as the Polibatam Office of International Affairs (OIA), Satriya Bayu Aji as Supervisor of Polibatam English Club (PEC), Yoke Fong as Deputy Manager of Office of International Relations from RP. The program was then continued with PBL observation activities, in which each group of students made observations in different PBL groups at Polibatam. For information, Polibatam has implemented a PBL learning pattern in which each student learns directly from projects or problems in the vocational field, both from industry directly and from product innovations from students.
In addition, RP students accompanied by PEC students also had the opportunity to tour the campus. A number of differences in existing systems and buildings became the subject of discussion for cultural exchanges between students from the two institutions. “I’ve never seen this kind of thing before in my campus! It’s so cool and innovative!” said Alysia, a student at RP Singapore, when she saw the lift-pedal created directly by Polibatam students. This lift-pedal innovation itself was created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As for the responses from another RP student, she is Syaqirah, regarding the PBL E-Bupot he observed: ”The PBL with E-Bupot is very interesting. They cost the accounting and informatic engineering students to create an application for the taxpayer. In my opinion, this is really helpful and can be used in the future by the government. It sure looks very innovative, and it’s actually an honor to learn about E-Bupot”.
The event then continued with a project presentation, in which each group presented the results of the project regarding “cultural differences”, as well as the results of PBL’s observations. Presentation activities were carried out in the Theater Room, 3rd Floor, Technopreneur Building. The first day of the event was closed with a group photo and brief coordination related to the industrial visit for the following day.
