Polibatam PPKS Task Force Attended the National Coordination Meeting of the Indonesian PPKS Task Force
POLIBATAM- Politeknik Negeri Batam task force for preventing and handling sexual violence/pencegahan dan penanganan kekerasan seksual (PPKS), represented by the chair of the Polibatam PPKS task force, Shinta Wahyu Hati, and student element member, Adilah Putri Nafisah, attended the national coordination meeting of the PPKS task force for higher education throughout Indonesia under the Ministry of Education and Culture on Tuesday, 3 October 2023 at Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel. This national coordination meeting was attended by elements of the Chair/Secretary of the PPKS task force and elements of PPKS task force students from 250 universities, with a total of 500 participants. Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, Inspector General of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology, PLT Director General of Higher Education, and the regional head of LLDIKTI were also present at this national coordination meeting.
At the PPKS national coordination meeting, Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim, said that the PPKS task force was a noble job that deserved rewards and appreciation for its dedication to fighting at the forefront in saving the future of the nation’s generation. “I feel proud to be here, therefore don’t give up, keep fighting and always be enthusiastic about freeing our universities from sexual violence,” said Nadiem. On that occasion, Nadiem hoped that the PPKS task force could build a communication network between PPKS task forces throughout Indonesia.
In the discussion session, the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Education and Culture expressed his appreciation to the Politeknik Negeri Batam PPKS task force for sharing examples of good practices in preventing and handling sexual violence, where the Politeknik Negeri Batam already has a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the prevention and handling of sexual violence and was asked to share it with other universities throughout Indonesia as a reference.
Inspector General of the Ministry of Education and Culture, as the chair of the working group for handling PPKS, Mrs. Dr. Chatarina Muliana Girsang, SH, SE, MH., said that the biggest task of the task force is the interests of victims. According to her, when sanctions are successfully given to the perpetrators, it will be able to prevent their recurrence and can also reduce cases of sexual violence. She appealed for socialization and education to continue to be carried out in various activities within the tertiary institution, starting from new student reception events, student organization briefings, or other activities.
At the end of the national coordination meeting, the PPKS task forces, including lecturers, staff, and students, were committed to promoting the sustainability of the PPKS task force as a form of collaboration and coordination between the Ministry of Education and Culture and higher education as an effort to strengthen its role in preventing and handling sexual violence.
