Polibatam Launches Procedures for Preventing and Handling Sexual Violence (SOP PPKS)
POLIBATAM-Batam State Polytechnic Campus (Polibatam) announced the launch of Standard Operating Procedures for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence/Standar Operasional Prosedur Pencegahan dan Penanganan Kekerasan Seksual (SOP PPKS) as a result of a series of Gender Equality and Diversity for Social Inclusion (GEDSI) activities held in collaboration with the British Embassy and supervised by International Labor Organization (ILO).
Social media, an online platform allowing users to participate, share, and create content easily, has proliferated. The impact is felt directly on human behavior as a source of information and a means of socialization. In this context, Polibatam identified challenges in using social media, especially related to the non-standard and informal language, which often overrides communication ethics. In response to this challenge, Polibatam implemented GEDSI, focusing on implementing Basic Ethics to Develop Key Media Messages. This activity involves lecturers, education staff, students, and the Polibatam Cleaning Service in a series of events over 3 days via the Zoom platform on May 5-7, 2022.
Communication ethics discussed in the FGD also refers to the widespread phenomenon of sexual violence through information and communication technology, even leading to acts of sexual violence in other forms in lectures and academic community activities at Polybatam. So, on May 28-29, 2022, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held to design SOPs and referral mechanisms related to preventing and handling sexual violence, involving various stakeholders such as NGOs, LBH, DP3AP2KB, Police, Prosecutor’s Office and other institutions involved in handling cases of sexual violence in the city of Batam. The FGD resulted in proposals for 5 clusters of mechanisms for preventing and handling sexual violence: prevention, protection, recovery, assistance, and administrative sanctions.
