Answering the Challenges of AMTO HR Needs in Batam, Polibatam Opens Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
POLIBATAM-Batam City now has a Special Economic Zone for aircraft maintenance and work (maintenance, repair, overhaul/MRO) owned by Lion Air Group which is adjacent to Batam Hang Nadim international airport.
Batam Aero Technic (BAT) which began operating in 2014 was established to maintain and repair airplanes operated by airlines that are members of the Lion Air Group such as Lion Air, Wings Air, Batik Air, Lion Bizjet, Malindo Air, Thai Lion Air, and Angkasa Aviation Academy (pilot school).
The BAT industrial area has been built in phases 1 and 2 on an area of 6 hectares. Currently in phase 3 of construction. In phase 3 of hangar construction, BAT plans to build 8 hangar units that can accommodate 24 Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 aircraft.
Responding to the challenges of the need for human resources (HR) in the aerospace field, especially MRO, Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam) has opened a Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering study program which has produced graduates working at PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk. and at Batam Aero Technic (BAT).
The Aircraft Maintenance Hangar is a superior facility owned by Politeknik Negeri Batam as a center for education and training in the field of aircraft maintenance, which remains limited in Indonesia. This laboratory will be part of the superior facilities in the learning process for D3 Aircraft Maintenance Study Program students, and also as a training facility for internationally licensed Aircraft Maintenance Training Organization (AMTO) cadets.
Polibatam has an aircraft maintenance hangar laboratory. D3 Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Study Program, which is the only study program at the State Polytechnic in Indonesia. Specifically, the study program specializes in services to produce qualified Diploma graduates in the field of aircraft maintenance because it is also equipped with an internationally recognized basic license for aircraft maintenance. Currently, category A has basic licenses which include basic licenses for Body Airframe Fixed Wing (A1), Piston Engine (A3), and Turbine engine (A4).
This hangar can serve approximately 480 students and accommodates one Boeing 737-300 or Airbus 320 aircraft, as well as several small aircraft such as Cessna, Sundowner, and Navayo. Menristekdikti said that the plane needed good maintenance. Therefore it is necessary to prepare good human resources (HR) to handle it. The Batam State Polytechnic which has an aircraft maintenance study program has great opportunity.
The Batam State Polytechnic can supply expert and skilled workers for the aircraft maintenance industry or the aerospace sector in Batam City and Indonesia. This is proven by the number of alumni who have been accepted to work at GMF and BAT.
