City of Glasgow College (COGC) 3 Days Workshop: Exploring Gender Equality in STEM with a Focus on Logistics and Supply Chain Management

POLIBATAM-On the third day of the “Gender In STEM: Logistics and Supply Chain” workshop, the workshop continued to attract many participants. As before, this session was attended by Lee Ann Clulow and Michelle McSorley from COGC as keynote speakers. They were WiLAT members, lecturers, and students, so the total number of participants was around 200 people for three days.

This event was opened by the program chair, Mrs. Shinta Wahyu Hati, S.Sos., M.AB. During the workshop, Lee Ann and Michelle shared their profound knowledge of gender equality, unconscious bias, dealing with difficult and bullying behaviour, and women in leadership roles. The sessions were particularly impactful for WiLAT members, who actively engaged in discussions, sharing their journeys toward becoming prominent figures in the industry. Younger participants also shared their struggles and expressed how the insights gained from the sessions have greatly assisted them. Throughout three two-hour sessions, Lee Ann and Michelle have made a significant impact, inspiring and encouraging participants to advance in their careers with a spirit of equality.

The session ended with a dynamic discussion, where both male and female participants openly shared their experiences and insights on gender equality, disability, and social inclusion. The workshop was made possible through the generous support of Kemendikbud and the British Council. Their sponsorship was crucial in ensuring the event’s success. The discussions were enriched by insightful comments from several WiLAT members:

Day 1 (August 26, 2024):

  • Nurmaria Sarosa CMILT emphasized the importance of mentorship for young women in STEM.
  • Sabar Rismawaty, M.M. highlighted the need for policies that support gender equality in the workplace.

Day 2 (August 28, 2024):

  • Sabar Rismawaty, M.M. reiterated her points from the previous day, adding that structural changes in organizations are crucial for lasting impact.
  • Sari Puji Triwistaningrum (logistic practitioner) shared her experiences as a woman in a male-dominated field and stressed the importance of resilience.

Day 3 (August 29, 2024):

  • Juliana Sofia Damu CMILT spoke about the challenges and rewards of leadership as a woman in logistics.
  • Sabar Rismawaty, M.M., returned with insights on the progress made so far in gender equality and urged continuous efforts.
  • Meri Juliasni reflected on the importance of community support for women in STEM.
  • Sari Puji Triwistaningrum (logistic practitioner) added a powerful conclusion by discussing the intersectionality of gender and disability, advocating for more inclusive practices.

Furthermore, there are still four more webinar series for participants from the STEM field. namely Driving Your Own Career, Managing Stress and Building Resilience, Interviews & Career Development, Stories of Inspirational Figures in the Field of Gender Equality.
